I work in oil and acrylic, often both on the same piece, and I don't follow the rules about which comes first.
I’ll paint acrylic over oil. I'll add chalk if a piece asks for it.
Never the same canvas.

Some of my favorite pieces are the ones I put the least pressure on — I start, I follow it, and I stop when it's done, not when it matches a plan I had going in.
